1. What are the different ways I can serve in HighRidge Orphan Care?
The first thing you should know is that you don’t have to serve through our ministry directly. There are thousands of different ways you can serve orphaned and vulnerable children outside of what we are doing specifically in our ministry. That’s why we want to help you discover what gifts and talents you might have to offer and help you step into those things.
If you would rather us just tell you where you’re most needed, we can do that too! We have several ways to serve directly through our ministry. Check out the pdf description to see them in detail.
2. Does serving take a large time commitment?
It depends on how you choose to serve. However, that’s why we’d like to help you find a way to serve that fits your lifestyle and busy schedule. Many of the ways you can serve take minimal time and/or effort. It could be bringing a family a meal every now and then. It could be just committing to pray for families or kids that need God’s help. Whatever it is, we would love to help you find a way to use your gifts and resources.
3. Can I really make a difference with small amounts of time and effort?
Absolutely. We’ve seen kids get adopted as a direct result of someone deciding to volunteer for one night at a match event. We’ve seen families greatly blessed and encouraged because someone brought them a meal during a tough day. You can make a difference!
4. I don’t feel called to Orphan Care, so I don’t have to do this, right?
We believe caring for orphaned and vulnerable children is a foundational calling of our faith. However, it’s likely the ministry you are passionate about could be playing a role in orphan care as well. We’d love the opportunity to discuss the multitude of ministries that are seemingly not related to orphan care but definitely are.
5. How can I know that I’m making a difference when I serve?
If you’re serving outside of HROC we will help you define the win so you can see the effect you’re having. We will also always communicate the things God is doing through our ministry in all the appropriate channels of HRC.
6. Is this a trap?
Are you secretly trying to use this to get me to adopt? No. Orphan care is for everyone, adopting is not. We would never encourage someone to adopt that isn’t strong in their calling to do so because they most likely wouldn’t make it if they did. It can be very difficult which is why we need people who are not called to adopt to step in and help those that are.
